Uncertainty gnawed at you, but curiosity won out. With a trembling hand, you dipped it into the water. It was icy cold, and a peculiar sensation crept up your arm. Gathering your courage, you plunged your arm deeper into the bucket. To your astonishment, your entire arm disappeared from sight. This was no ordinary bucket! As your fingertips brushed against something solid at the bottom, a jolt of electricity surged through you, forcing your arm upward with violent force.
“Don’t be afraid,” the bucket said, “it is your destiny to fight! Reach in and take what belongs to you. Hesitation is for the weak.”
With a newfound confidence, you plunged your arm back into the frigid abyss of the bucket. Your hand closed around something solid at the bottom. As you pulled your arm again from the pail, a deck of playing cards emerged, water hung on the edges like tiny shimmering pearls.
“What is this?” you asked with astonishment.
"Ah, my foolish friend," the bucket declared, its voice now dripping with a strange authority. "This is the Deck of Destiny. Your choices henceforth are bound to its whims. Use it wisely to navigate the labyrinth of your life. Remember, even the most careful plans can be undone by fate's capricious hand. Godspeed and good luck!"
A chilling, metallic laughter echoed from the bucket as its form began to deteriorate. Rust crept rapidly across the metal, consuming it with an insatiable hunger. The wooden frame, once sturdy, splintered and dissolved into nothingness, leaving behind only swirling motes of dust. In the blink of an eye, the bucket had vanished, leaving you alone in the eerie silence. The only remnant of this bizarre encounter was the deck of playing cards, now clutched tightly in your left hand.
Congratulations! You’ve discovered the Deck of Destiny.
(Grab your deck of playing cards.)
As a testament to your forgotten wizardly wisdom,
draw the top two (2) cards and hold on to them.
Your journey has just begun!
Note: As your story progresses, you’ll now be instructed to either draw more cards from the deck, or discard cards that you hold. The Deck of Destiny is what determines your fate as you make your choices. A reference on how to use the deck, can be found here.
Your vision, now seemingly sharpened from The Deck of Destiny, reveals details you hadn't noticed before. The stone walls now show subtle variations in color and texture. Some stones appear loose, almost as if they could conceal something hidden behind them. In a shadowy corner, a tray of untouched food sits forgotten. Across the room, the iron cage door is secured with a heavy lock.
